It’s a fact of life we don’t like to talk about too much, but if you have a business premises, public space or care facility, from time to time you are going to be dealing with body spills – whether it’s blood, vomit or unexpected soiling.

How to clean up when accidents happen

Why body spills are potentially dangerous

Body spills are different to other liquid spills in that they always represent a potential source of infection, so they must be cleaned up immediately and efficiently and the area disinfected, to eliminate the risk.

Clearing up body spills quickly is also important because they can contain large amounts of pathogens that, if not removed effectively, can quickly spread and cause illness in others. And they often occur in settings where there are lots of other people present, not only customers but staff too.

Body spillages are also, let’s face it, unpleasant to deal with and for people to be around, so you want to get them cleaned up quickly and without too much fuss. This is not the time to rush around looking for various tools and equipment. You need to know that everything is at hand and ready to use instantly.

The Oxivir Plus Spillage Kit

Diversey Care’s Oxivir Plus Spillage Kit contains everything you need to isolate, remove and disinfect a body spill. It allows you to respond quickly before the spill has a chance to spread and cause further contamination.

Everything you need to clean up spills

The contents of the spillage kit include:

  • Disposable protective clothing
  • Absorbent granules
  • Plastic scoop
  • Scraper and bags
  • A spray bottle of the unique Oxivir Plus broad-spectrum disinfectant.

All the items are contained in a handy portable carrier, designed to be kept at convenient locations throughout the premises for quick and easy access during emergencies. Refill kits are also available so that you are always ready for action.

How to use the Oxivir Plus Spillage Kit

When a body spillage occurs, the user puts on the protective clothing – gloves, shoe protectors, apron, mask and goggles. They then spray the spill and surrounding area with the Oxivir Plus disinfectant. Depending on the nature of the body spill, an area up to one metre from its centre may need to be disinfected because small, barely visible liquid droplets created by coughing, sneezing, vomiting and so on can travel this far.

A sachet of dry granules from the kit is then applied to the spill and surrounding area. The granules absorb any liquid present and quickly form a gel that can be gathered up easily using the scraper and scoop and placed into one of the kit’s sealable plastic bags ready for safe disposal.

Once the gel has been removed the area is sprayed again with the Oxivir Plus disinfectant and left for five minutes. At this point you will need to keep the space off-limits temporarily with a caution sign.

And that’s it! Something that is considered to be an unpleasant job is turned into a simple, satisfying and, above all, safe task.
